Milarepa Festival Day
and
Open House
with special guest
Tibetan Flautist,
Nawang Khechog
Saturday, July 25: practice and events all day
Come celebrate Chokhor Duchen, the anniversary
of the Buddha's First Teaching during this
special Festival Day at Milarepa Center.
Seven weeks after attaining
enlightenment in Bodh Gaya,
India, the Buddha
traveled to Sarnath, a small village outside of
the sacred city of
Varanasi, and taught The
Four Noble Truths:
There is suffering;
There is a cause of the suffering;
There is an end to the suffering;
There is a path to the end of the suffering.
Why was this the first teaching the Buddha gave?
Join us for an array of activities to
maximize the benefits of this auspicious
day, and find out why.
Our schedule will start with Precepts at 4:00am
followed by a morning of prostrations,
offering water bowls, and Lama Chopa
practice.
We will serve lunch at 11:30am
and have an afternoon of reading the
Sanghata Sutra, teaching on the Four Noble
Truths by Ven. Amy Miller and a special
workshop and concert with Tibetan flautist
Nawang Khechog.
The results of all activities are extensively
multiplied on this day so don't miss this
unique opportunity to visit and enjoy
Milarepa
Center and its
wonderful scenic beauty.

Fundraising Update
We
have had some very challenging news: a major
donor to
Milarepa
Center has had a
dramatic decline in business at this time (no
surprise of course with the state of the economy
this year).
As a result he has had to
reduce his monthly contributions of $1,500 per
month to $500 per month. While his contributions
to the Center have been extensive and hugely
generous, this is completely understandable.
However, we just wanted to let you know this
news as this will put a significant strain
on what we are able to provide this year.
So we are appealing to you, if you are able,
to please make a tax-deductible contribution at
this time or consider a monthly pledge that we
can apply to our normal operating expenses of
approximately $7,000 per month. We
greatly appreciate your help. Checks are made
payable to Milarepa Center or you can visit our website
at www.milarepacenter.org
and make a secure donation with your credit card
via our PayPal account. We realize times
are tough for everyone right now, but we thought
it important to let you know this news. Please
send your prayers our way as well and we will
continue our practices to keep the causes for
prosperity flourishing along with the wonderful
activities we are providing. We
send you best wishes and hope to see you soon,
Amy Miller and Jeff Garnette
